Support Crew
Crew are the team chosen by the entrant to be ultimately responsible in looking after their welfare before, during and after the event and will be able to access and support entrants on a large portion of the course.
- The crew should comprise of a minimum 2 people.
- All crew members must complete the crew medical survey.
- The crew is responsible for having enough water, food, nutrition, gear to enable their entrant to safely complete 220 gruelling kilometres.
- The crew should first and foremost have the entrant safety, health and wellbeing as number 1 priority and not just finishing. A crew will in some circumstances need to overrule the entrant for their own safety and the crews.
- Crew will have access to their entrants from 21km onwards and will need to be able to read maps and navigate in order to meet your entrant along the course.
- There will be designated DU Hubs on course where crew can camp or power nap (own gear required), these Hubs will monitor the fatigue of the crews and provide water, fruit, a warm fire and some warm food while waiting for your entrant.
- The whole course accessible by 2WD car (other than Bears Head Hub which is walk in only).
- Crew cars should be parked in a way as to not block roads or create a safety issue for other road users.
- Crews must comply with all DU135 rules and regulations.
- Support crews are only allowed to access entrants at the nominated Hubs. No support is to be given outside of nominated Hubs by crews. Mt Blackwood summit is the exception when they are signing the Summit Book.
Pacers
A pacer is any individual who accompanies an entrant for any distance on the course. Pacers must carry all mandatory gear listed in the above Mandatory gear section.
- First pacer may join each entrant from the Hogan’s HUB at approx. 76km point during their outbound journey on Friday.
- Pacers are not compulsory and is more of a luxury item.
- Only one pacer may accompany an entrant at any given time after Loh’s Hub.
- Each pacer must complete the online medical information form.
- Pacers must be at least 18 years of age.
- Each pacer must wear the official pacer bib that corresponds to the entrant they are pacing. Two pacer bibs are provided per entrant.
- Pacers must stay with their entrant at all times, except in the case of an emergency.
- Change of pacers may only occur at recognised official race Hubs listed in the Hub matrix.
- Pacers must enter and leave each aid station with their entrant.
- Pacers must NOT mule, the entrant responsible for carrying their own pack, mandatory gear and belongings at all times.
- Pacers must carry all mandatory gear listed in the above Mandatory gear section.
- Pacers must comply with all DU135 rules.
Rules & Requirements
Rules are in place to ensure the integrity of the event and to create a fair playing field for all who participate. Failure to adhere to the following rules will be grounds for disqualification from event. Race Committees decisions are final.
1. All participants must carry all mandatory gear at all times (see mandatory gear). There will be mandatory gear checks on course.
2. Entrants must leave / progress forward away from Hub’s before the designated cut off times. If entrants are unable to proceed away from the Hub before the cut off time has elapsed, they will be withdrawn from the event.
3. Each entrant must ensure they are signed in on arrival and out on departure of all nominated DU Hubs (checkpoints).
4. Pacers must not mule any gear for entrants (entrants to carry own mandatory gear).
5. Entrants without crews should prepare drops bags to check-in Friday for placement at course Hubs.
6. Entrants must wear their official race bib in a frontal position and be easily visible.
7. Entrants must strictly adhere to cut off times in place at checkpoints. DU Hub captain’s decision is final. Entrants must be collected by support crews from DU Hubs if cut off times are not met or if they withdraw.
8. This is a mutual support event. Participants and support crews must offer assistance to others in distress.
9. As entrants exit the event either via withdrawal or at the finish line they should allow the medical team to give them a quick medical once over.
10. Entrants are responsible for the actions of their crews and pacers at all times.
11. As a cut off time elapses, all entrants who are still on course behind this cut off time will be directed to leave the course. This may occur via entrant’s crew being asked to collect them from an appropriate location on the course (if they are willing and able) or one of the race directors meeting the entrant on course with a vehicle and taking them to their crew or race HQ at Blackwood.
12. Support crews are only allowed to access entrants at the nominated Hubs. No support is to be given outside of nominated Hubs by crews. Mt Blackwood summit is the exception when entrants are signing the Summit Book.
